Excuses Excuses Excuses


My posts are inspired by you and this is a big one.  I hear excuses all the time that people give me for not exercising. I am realizing this is getting to be chronic and it must be addressed.  

Truth is – we feel better when we do exercise. Consistency is important and you should schedule at least 3 workouts in a week to get some real results and stay fit.  It really doesn’t matter if you go to a gym or work out at home.  The important thing is you need to include some movement in your every day life.

Every day might not be an option for those who struggle with family issues and work demands.   However, what about the small things you can do in between?  Trying to fit some movement in during your activities of daily living is a great idea.  Do you need a posture check?   Probably!  Are you slumping behind the steering wheel or hunched over your computer?  Maybe!  How about the train, bus or plane?  Most definitely!  We know this behavior can and should be improved upon. Your body mechanics are important – you need to pay attention to this because you are the one living in your body.  Give some thought process to keeping that bellybutton back to the spine and sit taller. When you get up from your chair or couch and walk to the bathroom check that your shoulders are back and your ribs are elongated away from your hips. We wait in line for everything – do some calf raises to strengthen those feet, ankles, calves and shins plus you will be practicing your balance moves. No one will be watching you because everyone else will be hunched over their phones!!!   Save the subway fare and walk. Get your heart pumping during the day with mini-spurts of activity.

If you feel squeezed for time, get up an hour earlier and get that workout in before you leave for work.  It will actually energize you and you will be more productive the rest of the day.  If you are a night person, promise yourself that if you start your workout and you can’t make it through,  that you will quit early.  I guarantee that you will finish your workout and probably do more than you anticipated because it will feel good while you are in the mix.

The funny thing is that once you deviate from the routine it is much harder to get back on track – so don’t let that happen to you!
