What I'm Loving Now

While most of us are focused on our “heavy” midsection or thighs, PMI (PhysicalMind Institute) is concerned with another weighty body part:  the head.  Apparently, 90% of the population has some degree of forward head syndrome.  If your head is just one inch forward from where it is supposed to be balanced, your head weight increases by 10 pounds!  That is astonishing.  Fortunately, most people are not yet at this point, but they do have some incline and almost everyone has some degree of excessive thoracic kyphosis which is a forward rounding of the middle and upper back thanks to us being huddled over our devices:(

Recently, PMI designed a tool to help maintain cervical posture and relieve tightness and pain in the upper torso.   I had to try it out so I purchased the HeadFloater™.  Pictured above, this adjustable neoprene device fits securely around the head and features bungee cords that attach to a series of four thumb loops.  You lie on your back with a book under your head while doing some breathwork as you stretch the bungees to cradle your head.  Then you release back to the starting position.  I have been using mine at night before bedtime and it has been really fabulous.  Your head feels simply weightless!

The Head Floater™ costs $35 but, until the end of October, enter code HF2013 at www.themethodpilates.com to receive $10 off.  Also visit the site to view videos, photos and more details on this unique device.
