My new obsession is lentils – what a cost-effective way
to get high-quality protein. Just think
– it is the way Grandma used to eat!
Lentils are protein-rich seeds that grow within pods. They're members of
the legume family that also includes garbanzo, pinto, and kidney beans. Trader Joe's Steamed Lentils are very small, typically
French lentils that are produced by a small supplier in Normandy, France.
They're fully cooked and packed in a pouch that keeps them fresh and delicious.
Lentils can take 30 minutes or more to prepare and we don't always have that
kind of time. And that's why these #Steamed Lentils@Trader Joes
make me so very happy:)
You can heat them in the microwave to make a hearty side
dish or enjoy them cold in salads right out of the pouch. This saves even more time because, if you're
cooking dry lentils and you want to serve them cold, you need to both cook and
cool them. You can also add them to soups for a real treat - they pack a
powerful protein punch, and they're just so delicious. I had mine today with
some veggies and couscous. You can also
substitute another grain such as brown rice. At
$2.99 a pouch it means
they're as affordable as they are convenient. Give them a try -- I guarantee you will be hooked!
