Reflexology

Reflexology is one of the most popular and unique forms of alternative healing available today.  The term reflexology refers to the application of pressure, movement and stretching to the feet and hands.  This technique is applied to every pressure point on the body parts you are massaging and is thought to correspond to  some part of the body,  including organ systems, limbs and torso.

Every night, before bedtime, I make it a habit to perform my own version of reflexology on my feet using cream or oil.  It may not be as spot on as having it done by a reflexologist, but in a pinch it really does the trick.  The map you see above shows sections of the feet that correspond to various body parts.  If I have an issue with a shoulder or if I am feeling like I am fighting a cold, I will look for that corresponding body part on the map and work that section of the foot vigorously.  I have gotten amazing results so I feel there IS truth to what they say about pressure points being related to the organs in your body.

For instance, take some time to just think of how we abuse our feet.  We either cram them into 6 inch heels that are too small or we are standing on them or walking for long periods of time without allowing them to breathe or stretch.  Then think about how much you would gain from a foot pampering session!  If nothing else, a reflexology session will leave you feeling relaxed and well.  And isn't this a perfect time of the year to treat yourself and enjoy that sensation:)
