You might have heard of various types of buckwheat pillows that have been widely used throughout the Orient for centuries. These pillows are filled with completely organic buckwheat hulls that shape themselves to your head and neck.
The hulls have properties that make them uniquely comfortable, supportive and therapeutic for a restful night’s sleep. I researched and came across the Sobakawa Buck Pillow which is the name brand that is featured most often.
The hulls have properties that make them uniquely comfortable, supportive and therapeutic for a restful night’s sleep. I researched and came across the Sobakawa Buck Pillow which is the name brand that is featured most often.
I ordered mine through Bed, Bath and Beyond and couldn’t wait to rush home and hit the sack:) At first it takes a while to get accustomed to the Sobakawa because it seems quite firm compared to a more traditional pillow. It feels like you are sleeping on beanbag!!! However, once you do get used to it, you wonder how you ever slept on anything else.
Here are some other useful tips for the pillow:
Use it when you drive for lower back support.
Try it in your office chair, especially when working at the computer or talking on the phone.
Place it under your knees when your lower back hurts.
For chronic shoulder pain, place the pillow under your upper arm and shoulder for a more comfortable sleep.
When you have a head or neck spasm, put it in the freezer for an hour or so before use for maximum cooling effect (place it in a plastic bag for protection).
For improved posture, lie on your back on the floor with the Sobakawa placed just below your shoulder blades to stretch out your middle back.
It does help soothe discomfort in your neck, shoulders and upper back and promotes sound sleep. For the small price of $19.99 – I think it’s definitely worth a whirl. Make sure you get the "Buck" pillow, though. Sobakawa makes the "Cloud" pillow which is rated much lower. Sweet Dreams:)
