To me it seemed like torture back then. But now I am forever grateful where that has taken me. Throughout the years, I have dabbled in Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Power Yoga, Bikram, etc. To me, the name Restorative Yoga, always made me think there would not be enough movement for me so it was not at the top of my list. With this style of Yoga, less is more. It is not about the movement -- it is about the powerful effect that you experience when you connect the mind with the body.
For those of you who are not familiar with
Restorative Yoga, it is done seated or lying down. So if you like sleeping, you’re good
LOL. It is a deeply relaxing and
revitalizing practice that encourages rest. It resets the body, mind and
spirit. Props such as blankets,
bolsters, blocks and straps are used and all of these help you to achieve the proper position for relaxation and for stretching and lengthening your muscles and bones.
After my first 90-minute session, I felt like my whole body was
singing. For me, it has the same satisfying release that a massage provides only you are your own therapist. I have become a convert!
If you have never experienced this type of
Yoga, you owe it to your body to check it out.
The instructor makes all the difference in the world so you might have
to shop around. I have taken the classes
at Breathe N Flow Yoga in Freeport and encourage you to explore their website
and schedule: http://www.breathenflowyoga.com/ However, I am sure that you will find may
studios in your area that offer this type of Yoga. A big thank you to Donna H. who turned me on
to this. You are a pal -- Namaste:)
